MENUMENU
Originally called, Maintenance Service Company, the business was started in 1957 by Robert Hartman. He first started the business as a supply and service company for municipalities in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area. Originally Maintenance Service offered fence and guide rail, sign posts, road signs, line striping, street sweeping, guide rail installation, fence installation and many other services. After ten successful years of doing multiple things, Robert decided to put all of his efforts into fencing and guide rail work. At peek he employed 30 – 35 people.
In 1977, Bob Hartman sold the company to Ken Hartman, his son. In 1979, two years later, Dave Hartman started to work for his cousin Ken. By 1988 he had worked his way up through the company and was running it. When he purchased the business off of Ken in 1993, he changed the name from Maintenance Service Company to Fence by Maintenance Service Company. Currently, Dave’s son, Cody Hartman, is working at the company learning as much as possible in hopes to keep the business in the family for many years to come with professional fence installation in Pittsburgh.
The company has continued to grow to its current size, with professional, experienced, installers specialized to fit all your fencing needs. Through all of this, Fence By Maintenance Service has remained at the same location on Perry Highway in Wexford. They have continued to keep the same high business standards as their Great Uncle Bob Hartman.
